Under the direction of the Director of Mission or Director of Spiritual Care, the Chaplain III ministers to patients, families, and staff around religious and spiritual needs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the chaplain provides spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss, and death. The chaplain is committed to the Mission and models its core values. Essential Job Functions include recognizing the sacramental needs of the Catholic population, providing for religious and ritual needs of diverse faith groups, ministering to a diverse population in a non-proselytizing manner, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, providing advanced pastoral care and counseling techniques, conducting spiritual care assessments and care planning, providing consultation for complex cases, delivering spiritual interventions in end-of-life and crisis situations, coordinating pastoral care resources, providing advanced care planning consultations, delivering specialized services in areas of expertise, developing and delivering educational content, facilitating staff-support interdisciplinary conversations, advising clinical leaders on ethical and moral concerns, integrating best practices from spiritual care research, publishing articles, program planning and management, co-leading seminars and CPE units, providing supervision under ACPE Certified Educator, and communicating clinically relevant information in the EMR. The chaplain must demonstrate knowledge of Ethical and Religious Directives of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and adhere to policies of the Catholic healthcare organization. The position requires 24/7 call availability including holidays and weekends. Licensing/Certification required includes completion of four or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), board certification by a professional certifying organization, and preferred advanced certification or ACPE Certified Educator Candidate. Education required is a Master's degree in Theology or Pastoral Studies, with preferred Master's in Divinity and Doctoral degrees. Work experience requires documentation of faith community endorsement and 3 years of progressive experience as a Chaplain.
