Weekly Hours: 12-19 hours per week GENERAL PURPOSE
Works under the close supervision of the Senior Services Director performing a variety of
routine semi-skilled and skilled duties as needed to operate a van in the process of delivering meals to home-bound and aged. Monitors general condition and needs of clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Drives delivery vehicle on pre-scheduled routes to provide elderly with meal services; reviews daily route sheets to verify accuracy of number and type of meals to be delivered; delivers meals and observes the general condition of client with regard to health and safety; might communicate client concerns to supervisor for referral for related agency sponsored or coordinated services.
Assist on the food tray line as needed to package and load meals; assures proper preparation of total number and special diet meals assigned routes; must be familiar and comply with Environmental Department (ED) regulations i.e., daily tests or checks hot and cold food temperatures for record keeping purposes, sanitation, etc.
Picks up and returns seniors from their homes to the center and other scheduled activities, following a fixed route system to accommodate senior and maintain fuel efficiency.
Picks up donation envelopes form home-delivered participants and delivers to Senior Center Director. May run errands for the senior center during routes along with errands for homebound seniors.
Assists seniors on and off the van at all times; may physically escort senior to and from their destinations.
Performs pre-trip inspections, cleans vehicle both inside and out, performs minor vehicle maintenance, assures proper fuel and other fluid levels; maintains tire air pressure and performs other safety checks of vehicles and equipment; cleans vehicle; maintains various travel and delivery records.
Maintains record of daily changes in route; must maintain route log; prepares reports as required.
Performs general custodial duties as needed to maintain senior center facilities; performs various cleaning routines and sanitizes areas frequented by patrons; empties receptacles, sweeps, mops, etc.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience : A. Sufficient education to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties; B. AND One (1) year experience in driving, preferably in multi-passenger vehicles or delivery vans.
2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of vehicle operation and safety regulations.
Working knowledge of basic automotive maintenance; of geographical regions serviced; of state highway and driving laws; basic cleaning methods, practices and chemicals.
Some knowledge of the special needs of senior citizens.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and senior citizens; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; perform physically demanding tasks related to lifting.
3. Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license. Must have a good driving record, as documented by a copy of DMV records. Must have completed or be able to complete within two months of employment the National Safety Council Defensive Driving course, The American Red Cross Adult CPR and standard First Aid course. Must be physically capable of assisting seniors on and off of the van and, lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
4. Work Environment:
Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular and sensory strain, such stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and some creative problem solving. Rapid response motor skills required in the operation of multi passenger vehicles. Continuous travel required in the normal course of job performance.
